Mexico City is one of the first two cities to receive support from the C40 Cities Finance Facility. This project has the potential to pave the way for other cities to shift their buses to low or zero emission technologies, particularly in Latin America. As cities tackle the increasingly serious issue of air pollution, Mexico City can lead the way in pioneering new, creative approaches at reducing air pollution and transport emissions.
Bogotá is one of the first two cities to receive support from the C40 Cities Finance Facility. As cities around the world aim to implement sustainable urban mobility plans, Bogotá can act as an example for cities in Colombia, Latin America and globally to reduce their dependence on private vehicles. This project builds on the city's long-standing efforts at developing high-quality cycling infrastructure and experimenting with different solutions, while catering for all cyclists, regardless of age, gender, socio-economic status or level of fitness.
Dakar joins the C40 Cities Finance Facility in the second phase as one of 14 new projects to receive funding to support the cities to realise their low-carbon and climate resilient projects. Cities throughout the world are struggling to ensure that they will be resilient to the rates of flooding predicted through climate change, particularly among some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities. Dakar will pave the way for other cities in Africa and the world. It will act as an example of a city which provides both a safe place to work and live, and reduces health risks.
Curitiba joined the C40 Cities Finance Facility in the second phase. It is one of 14 new projects that receive funding to support the realization of their low carbon and climate resilient projects. As cities around the world take advantage of the ever more accessible and affordable renewable energy options coming onto the market, Curitiba acts as an example to cities across Brazil and Latin America of how to deliver clean cheap energy to the city while reucing the cities dependence on the grid.
The webinar on October 26 built on recent research and the experience of Mexico City to show the benefits of addressing air pollution through interventions on urban bus fleets.
